UNIQUE SHOPS IN KERRY

I’m excited to share some of my favourite hidden shopping gems in our beautiful County Kerry. These are not your typical tourist shops – they’re local, independent traders who pour their hearts into every piece they create. From handcrafted jewellery to delicious local treats, each store tells a story of love, tradition, and authenticity.

I’ve handpicked a few shops that I know you’ll absolutely adore. So, when you’re out exploring the Kingdom, take a little time to pop into these spots and experience a unique kind of shopping that you’ll treasure.

Moriarty’s
The Gap of Dunloe, Killarney – This family-run store has been around since 1964 and is truly a one-stop destination for everyone. Whether you’re looking for beautiful jewellery, cosy knitwear, or top-quality leather goods, you’ll find it here. And after shopping, you can treat yourself to some fresh, delicious food right next door – trust me, the view is unforgettable. You might find it hard to leave!

Peter Cox Photography
5 Plunkett Street, Killarney – Step into Peter Cox’s light-filled gallery, and you’ll be swept away by the beauty of Ireland captured through his lens. It’s an incredible way to take a piece of the landscape back home with you. I could spend hours here admiring his stunning prints. There’s something for everyone, from dramatic landscapes to serene, picturesque scenes.

Aran Sweater Market
College Street, Killarney – If you’re a fan of classic Irish knitwear, this place is a dream! Aran sweaters have been an iconic part of Irish fashion for decades, and this store offers an array of options for everyone – men, women, children, and even your home. The unique clan knits are a beautiful nod to family history and tradition. You might just find your family’s very own Aran pattern here!

The Coach House
The Mail Road, Dingle – This is one of those shops that makes you feel right at home the moment you walk in. Grainne Kavanagh, the owner, has a knack for curating a stylish collection of interiors, accessories, furnishings, and uniquely Irish designs that will inspire and delight you. Perfect for finding that special something for yourself or a loved one.

Fiadh Woven Design
Main Street, Dingle – If you love textiles, don’t miss this one. Fiadh (pronounced Fia), a local textile designer, creates stunning contemporary woven garments using traditional weaving techniques. The shop and workshop are on-site, so you can see the magic happen right before your eyes. I can’t get enough of her beautifully crafted pieces!

Dingle Crystal
Green Street, Dingle – Sean Daly, a master craftsman who started his career at the world-famous Waterford Crystal, brings the age-old tradition of mouth-blown, hand-cut crystal to life. Every piece here is a work of art. It’s the perfect place to pick up something truly exquisite for your home.

Derry’s Purties
10 Main Street, Castleisland – Derry and his son Tadhg became national treasures with their hilarious YouTube videos during lockdown. When he’s not cracking jokes online, you’ll find him in his charming shop full of purties and curios. It’s a little slice of fun and nostalgia that’s definitely worth a visit.

Delia O’Donoghue Cermaics
94 Main Street, Castleisland – Delia’s ceramics are inspired by the natural beauty of Kerry. She uses different types of ash in her glazes, including wood, turf, and organic oat husk, making her work both unique and sustainable. I especially love her collections named after notable areas in Kerry, like the Blasket and Ross Collections.

Lorge Chocolatier
18 Henry Street, Kenmare – If you have a sweet tooth, this is a must-visit! Benoit Lorge creates luxury, handmade chocolates using only the finest ingredients. He also offers chocolate courses, so if you’re feeling inspired, you can even learn from the master himself. Where do I sign up?

Kenmare Cashmere
20 Henry Street, Kenmare – For the ultimate in luxury, step into this shop. They specialise in grade A Mongolian Cashmere wool, which is so soft, light, and warm, you won’t want to take it off. Their collection is elegant and top quality – the perfect indulgence.

Tralee Farmers Market
Princes Street, Tralee – This lively market takes place every Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm. It’s a feast for the senses! You’ll find the best local produce, fresh fruits and vegetables, cheese, organic meats, homemade jams, cakes, and so much more. Come with an appetite because the tastings are not to be missed!

Michael Walsh’s Nautical Antiques
Main Street, Cahersiveen – Stepping into this shop is like walking into an Aladdin’s cave of nautical treasures. Michael spends months each year searching shipyards for unique pieces, and it shows. You’ll find everything from ship wheels to lanterns and even Indian carpets. It’s a quirky, charming spot that’s well worth exploring.

LQ Art Gallery
IRD Building, Waterville – Leo Quinlan’s landscape and seascape art captures the spirit of Kerry beautifully. Whether you’re looking for an original painting or a stunning print, his work will make you feel like you’ve taken a piece of the Kerry landscape home with you.

Skellig Gift Store & Heritage Gallery
New Line Road, Waterville – This store offers a vast range of Aran knitwear and classic Irish Grandfather shirts. And when you’re done shopping, take a stroll through the Heritage Trail just outside for a bit of Irish history and culture.
